If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know I love to learn new things. If it’s related to fiber, I’ll probably try it at least once. A long time ago, I used to braid rugs with wool fabric and my braiding buddy, Laurie, became interested in rug hooking – I resisted it back then.
Last weekend we traveled to Maryland for our annual first camping trip and Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival – and something just called to me as I was passing a booth with beautiful rugs……I have no idea what clicked or what little voice I heard but the next thing I knew I had bought a little kit, hoop and hook.
Of course I was excited, but so intimidated – I’ve done locker hooking and thought this was a little similar and possibly kinder on my hands – plus wool! Did I mention I used to braid rugs and have a huge wool stash that has sat untouched for years – I’m a little scared to open those bins up.
I found a lot of information on youtube, my first (notice I numbered it?) rug hooking book arrived yesterday. A great little talk show on youtube, My Rug Hooking Show, hosted by Annette, has been so inspirational and helpful. Last night I finally put the little piece of burlap on the frame and started….
It’s coming along nicely and I cannot stand how cute this is. It’s a little circle mat and I also purchased another kit from another seller – a Flying COW….my husband pointed it out to me and well, it was minutes before I owned it. With watching Annette’s talk show, I can already see the possibilities in making my own designs and incorporating some Zentangle into this – oh that would be so sweet! The really wonderful part about this is that you don’t need a boatload of time – as Annette reminds us in her talk show – just a small block of time, 5, 10, 15 minutes of working on a piece – you don’t have to finish a row, mark your spot on a pattern, remember where you left off – it’s just so easy to stop then start up again. And let me just say, how relaxing this is – another relaxing hobby can’t be bad. I need some more relaxation techniques to keep the stress levels down, don’t we all?
There’s a new Spinner in the Flock

This is the twelfth sheep in this series…..I’m sure I will do more and probably work towards doing a calendar. I would like to add some Holiday sheep in, and some occasions as well. But I’ve done a sheep a day for the last little while, and I have some other commissioned work I want to get done, my Derwent Academy classes to finish and some tutorials on colorwork I want to study. I’d like to add some colored pieces to the collection. As it is, I have a decent amount of original work done for the show in September, so anything I add now will be a bonus. As with anything you see here or on Redbubble, the originals are for sale. Just contact me and we will work out the details.
Happy Fourth of July!

I hope you have a wonderful day, whatever you may be doing. Thank you to our Son and Daughter-in-law and all the Brave, who keep this this Land of the Free.
We had some nasty weather yesterday, wicked thunderstorms and a tornado passed by us and just a few minutes away from us, people are without power, trees down, property damage. We had some good sized hail as it was going by, but other than our canopy moving a few feet, and losing power for about 5 minutes, we were very lucky. Stay safe out there!
Thursday’s Sheep is a little “Zen”…..

This one came to me on our motorcycle ride on Sunday….I don’t know why I think of things like this.
Hard to believe we are almost celebrating the 4th of July! The humidity is oppressive and thunderstorms were all around us yesterday. Today’s weather is supposed to be much of the same. There is Hurricane Arthur making his way up the coast towards North Carolina – be safe!
That’s the name of Wednesday’s Sheepy Thing…..

This would be number 8 in this series. A Devoted Mama keeping watch over her little one sleeping. I think this one would make a perfect Baby Gift, especially in a pillow to decorate a chair in Baby’s room…..Which one is your favorite?
I have a few templates I’d like to catch up on and a commissioned piece I’m pondering the design of. I love when I get a commission to do because I really enjoy the process of making what someone is talking about into something tangible, visible on paper.
I’d also like to give a new book, Pattern Play, A Zentangle Creativity Booster by Cris Letourneau and Sonya Yencer a thorough look-through and review. So far, I’m liking what I see. It is presented like a workbook with a good amount of patterns and their variations with “idea starters” to get you going. I really love Cris’s other book, Made in the Shade – excellent book to learn shading techniques. I bought both of my books through Amazon, so that’s the links I’ve given.
Have a Great Day and Keep on Tangling!
There are some talented Sheep around here…..this Ewe can Spin!!!

It is so nice to be able to incorporate my favorite things to do into these Tangles. I would love to be able to somehow have a sheep weaving, too. I do have a preliminary sketch of a “zen” sheep meditating….and another of a Mama Ewe watching over her sleeping lamb.
I’m fortunate to have the time to give to this project and I’m going to try to use every moment wisely. These summers off fly by so fast.
I’ve gotten a lot of new followers and likes but no comments…..please don’t forget I’m having a contest and I think I’d be really embarrassed if I didn’t have any participants. Go. Comment…..Please?
Today’s Sheepy thing is this little Trio…

These sheep are sort of taking on a life of their own…..just when I think I’m running out of ideas, I have another….so I’ll keep going until I run out of ideas!
Managed to get out for a walk this morning before the heat and humidity of the day. Tomorrow I think we’ll head out even earlier – the dogs were a little tired, if by tired they are just sleeping on the couch next to me right now. Seems like a mile walk translates into more for those little legs.
Have a Great Monday!
