What? 2010 is almost over?

Standard

The last month of 2010 has been craaaaazy busy. Not the usual crazy, getting ready for the holidays, ho ho rendous preparations etc. Nope. I added to the whole horror day mix by deciding, at the last possible second to hand knit 15 gifts this year. 15.  Fifteen.   Numero fifteeno.    A big ole piece of crazy cake.

I frickin did it, too.

I might be slightly, permanently holding my hands in a claw like position, but darn- it, I knit every gift for the girls at work, plus two amazing gifts for my children.

Our “Beardfasay” Boys (Scrubs reference intended)  oh and the shirt on the right – totally a game reference, Mindcraft, but I can’t tell you any more than that.

Granted 5 of the gifts were these small, fun little flakes…..

I did keep one for our tree – and I think I’ll be making more of these sometime…..just not right now.

A little after Christmas knitting, because she was very understanding about all the quality time spent cuddled into my side, while I knit all those other gifts…..

Catskill Ridge Sweater for Sophie.

I’m happy with the gifts I was able to accomplish this year.  It was something I wanted to do, as opposed to something I felt obligated to do – and though I felt rushed, it was a good feeling getting things knit with specific people in mind.  I’m glad I could share what I do with a few people that are important to me.  And furpuppies.

Christmas was surprising for me.  Not in that is was nice – it always is because we get to be together.  But Darn if DH didn’t surprise the heck out of me – again – this year.  It started with the stocking….

At first I just didn’t get it.  It’s a little notebook with an “eye” on it.  Then DS was all explaining at me……”Mom, what is it a picture of?”  “An Eye”……”Mom, what is it ON”…..”a notebook?”  doh!  A pad.  An EYE pad.  We had a nice chuckle over that – we all seemed to enjoy giving each other little gag gifts this year.   And I went on to open some incredible gifts.  Bamboo Addi Clicks!!!!  Extra cables for them!!!!  A box of Yarn!!!!  Just really wonderful, generous, way more than enough……

After all the gift giving, ooohhhh, and ahhhing was done, DH went inside and came back with a big box for me…..all explainy – it might not be the right one, we can take it back, etc, etc.  I was more than perplexed.  Unwrapping the box, I see the work “DELL” on the front.  Still don’t know what it is.  Open it up and there, tucked in between two styrofoam braces is another box………..and you could have easily knocked me over with a feather.  An IPAD.  A real one this time.  Holy crap!  I just don’t have words.  I’m still very suprised and shocked and totally feeling very fortunate and spoiled.  And I love, love, love it.  I debated about writing about it, but this blog is my journal of sorts and I really wanted to mark the amazing thing my husband did for me.  (if you look at the above photo, you can see the edge of the “real” one peeking out – I credit our youngest DS photo taking directions)

It was a really nice Christmas – oldest DS arrived mid morning and we had another bit of gift exchanging and then just enjoyed being together.  We had a lot of fun with the Beardfasay’s – despite having to figure out the pattern – that was what made it a fun project.   Oldests Christmas list was the start of that little adventure – he was being a bit of a smartass, and put a Ford Mustang on his list and then a picture of this beanie with a beard.   After doing some pattern searches, I was hesitant about buying the pattern – I should have trusted my instincts.  After spending more than I think a pattern should cost, well, I’m not going to go on and on but, long story short – I ended up designing the beard myself and I’m happy with the outcome.  The boys are going skiing next week and I think they’ll get some laughs out of wearing them around.

There is still a lot of knitting going on.  One more knit that has to get done – a baby blanket.  I did finish up the Cardi-Vest just the other day, too.  And Thea’s wonderful new design, Cranberry Capelet may have fell onto my needles.  Just saying. Thea is probably my favorite knit-designer and I can say I have yarn for at least two more of her patterns.    The Addi Clicks are amazing.  I have to be honest here…..my Knit Picks Harmony needles were just pissing me off – every cable had to be glued and RE-GLUED and still, they are popping out like crazy.  Nothing like knitting lace and having a freaking cable come out of the needle – True Story.  If you can snag yourself a set of Addi’s on sale, they’d be totally worth it.  I don’t know how or if they go on sale, I seem to remember a while ago seeing them on sale at some point.  But they are just wonderful to knit with – and the click part of it is ingenious.

2010.  It seems the older we get, the faster the years seem to go by.  Sometimes, you might look back and judge the year based on how many good vs. bad things happened.  This year I look back and feel a sense of accomplishment, which I hope will settle into  the rest of my years-looking-backness.  It wasn’t a particularly one way or the other year.  But it was a year that I seemed to work through a LOT of stuff.  It may not have had a happy outcome for each thing I worked through, but it had the kind of outcomes, that as a grownup, you can accept and move on from.  I’m ok with that.  Some events were nerve-wracking – a child in a car accident is never an easy thing to go through, but we’re all very lucky and blessed that what happened wasn’t as bad as it could have been.  We are all here, at the end of 2010, none the worse for wear, a bit older, and hopefully more than a bit wiser.  More appreciative.  More grateful.  And surprisingly, while looking forward to 2011, not entirely in a rush to see 2010 go out the door.

May 2011 bring with it Health, Happiness and Peace – Happy New Year!

ETA:  January 1, 2011 marks the sixth anniversary of this blog – it’s been six amazing years of learning and growing.  I’m grateful to have the place and the people who’ve helped me do both along the way – Thank you.

  2. Congratulations on both your iPads!

I did NO Christmas knitting this year — OK, one pair of fingerless mitts, but that’s it.

    Christmas was surprisingly relaxing.

    Coincidence?
